Refugee protection in Paraguay

Assess genuine protection needs separately.

Where there are indications of persecution or other risks covered by law, the AVR team’s lawyers authorised to carry out this work in Paraguay assess whether an international protection procedure may be relevant.

Distinguish protection from regular residence

Debts, tax disputes or criminal convictions do not, by themselves, establish entitlement to refugee protection. Protection proceedings and regular residence planning are assessed separately.

State procedure and private support

The competent state authorities decide on recognition. You can submit an application for protection to the competent authorities yourself, free of charge; you do not need to engage AVR. Any suitable private support is agreed separately. Protection status does not provide general immunity from lawful criminal prosecution.

Start with an introductory call, then agree on an in-depth assessment

A free 20-minute introductory call helps you understand the initial steps. An in-depth legal assessment and any suitable private support are agreed separately.

Scope of services and contact

AVR coordinates the case and the team’s work; legal services are provided by the lawyers named in each engagement, within their authorisation in the relevant country. The competent authorities and courts decide on residence, recognition of refugee status and citizenship. Outcomes and processing times are not guaranteed. An application, protection status or travel document does not confer citizenship.

Please describe your enquiry without attaching sensitive documents. Before any further documents are sent, their recipients, purpose and method of transmission will be clarified.

If you are in immediate danger, do not wait for an AVR appointment: contact the relevant assistance or emergency services directly.
